Introduction to Jestrum piercing

Jestrum piercings: Everything you need to know

History:

The jestrum piercing, also known as the vertical philtrum piercing, was named after the piercer who first popularized it and is becoming increasingly popular in the rare lip piercings.

Placement:

The jestrum piercing is pierced vertically through the middle of the upper lip, from the indentation above the lip arch (roughly the position of the medusa) into the red of the lip, so that the lower ball just touches the lower lip when the mouth is closed.

Jewelry:

With the Jestrum piercing, a curved barbell with 1.2mm bar thickness is used. After healing, it is recommended to continue using this jewelry, but it can be supplemented with various decorations or beads.

  • Curved Barbell: Curved bar
  • InternalInternally threaded jewelry with decoration, shapes, patterns etc.

            Healing time:

The healing time of a jestrum piercing varies from person to person, but is usually around 8 weeks, as with an Eskimo. In the first two weeks, a strong swelling of the tissue is to be expected, which then swells over the further healing period. The skin and muscle tissue in the upper lip heal relatively quickly, but it is still recommended that the Care instructions to be followed exactly.

              Dangers and complications:

As with any piercing, there are certain risks associated with jestrum piercings, such as infections, allergic reactions, inflammation and scarring. As the jestrum is pierced through the surface of the skin, it carries an increased risk of rejection. To minimize these risks, it is essential to be pierced by a professional piercer and to use high-quality jewelry.

              Recommendations for care:

              • Disinfect the outside of the piercing 3-5 times a day with a suitable piercing spray. We recommend the use of our Piercing Care. We have achieved the best results with this piercing spray over the years.
              • Avoid touching or pulling on the piercing. Please do not use Q-tips (cotton buds) for cleaning and use a clean handkerchief for crusts.
              • Avoid animal dairy products, fruit or fruit juices, spicy or acidic food/drinks for the first 2 weeks.
              • If possible, do not wear lipstick, lip balm, cream or make-up directly on or next to the piercing.
              • No wet kissing or oral sex during healing.
              • Make sure that your hair does not touch the piercing if possible.
