History:
The origins of facial piercings can be traced back to early cultures. In many tribal societies, they were used as jewelry or symbols of belonging. In the western world, facial piercings became known in the 1970s and gained great popularity in the 1990s.

Different types of facial piercings:
Nose piercings:
- Nostril: On the nostril, on the side of the nose.

Jewelry:
Various types of jewelry are used for facial piercings, the most common being:
- Labret plug: Plug with flat plate.
- BCR (Ball Closure Ring): Rings with a ball that is inserted into the ring.
- Segment Ring: Completely closed rings without balls. Closed with hinge or segment piece.
- CBB (Circular Barbell): Horseshoe-shaped rings with two balls.
- Barbell: Bars with balls at both ends.
- Banana: Curved Bars with balls at both ends.
- Clicker: Rings with decoration such as cubic zirconia, patterns, snakes.
- InternalInternally threaded jewelry with decoration, shapes, patterns etc.
- Nostril plug: Plug bent for the nostril.
Healing time:
The healing times for facial piercings vary depending on the type of piercing and the individual anatomy. In general, however, you can expect the following times:
- Nostril: 3 to 6 months.
- High Nostril: 3 to 6 months.
- Septum: 2 to 3 months.
- Bridge: 2 to 3 months.
- Rhino: 6 to 12 months.
- Nasal length: 6 to 12 months.
- Mantis: 4 to 12 months.
- Eyebrow piercing: 2 to 3 months.
- Anti eyebrow piercing: 2 to 4 months.
Material:
- High-quality jewelry made from sterilized material such as Bioplast, Surgical Steel 316L or Titanium G23 heals faster than inferior jewelry.
Aftercare:
- Careful cleaning the piercing and the surrounding area 3-5 times a day with our piercing care spray for external use.
Individual factors:
- Health and immune system: People with a strong immune system generally heal faster.
- Stress: Stress can slow down healing.
- Other factors: Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and diabetes can also impair healing.
In general:
- The first 3 to 4 weeks: During this time, the piercing is particularly susceptible to infection. It is importantnot to touch the piercing and to keep the surrounding area clean.
- After 2 to 3 months: The piercing should be largely healed, but must continue to be cleaned and swept.
- After 4 months: It can take up to 4 months until the skin around the piercing until the skin around the piercing is as resistant as before the piercing.
Dangers and complications:
As with any piercing, there is a risk of infection, allergic reactions and scarring with a facial piercing. It is important to get pierced by a professional piercer and to use high-quality jewelry to minimize these risks.
Recommendations for care:
- Disinfect the piercing 3 times a day with a suitable piercing spray. We recommend the use of our Piercing Care for the outside, in the mouth area we recommend using either the mouth rinse (Easy Piercing) or the mouth spray (Prontolind Mouth Spray).
- Avoid make-up on and around the piercing and avoid the area around the piercing if you use face creams.
- Avoid touching or pulling on the piercing. Please do not use Q-tips (cotton buds) for cleaning and use a clean handkerchief for crusts.
- Make sure that your hair does not touch the piercing if possible.
- If you are unsure about swelling, redness or pain, come and see us.
Additional information:
- Pain: The piercing of a facial piercing is usually associated with a short, sharp pain, depending on the piercing up to very severe pain. However, most people experience the pain as moderate.
- Costs: The cost of a facial piercing varies depending on the jewelry. Our prices start at CHF 65 including standard jewelry for most facial piercings. Excluded from this are Surface (anti-eyebrow) from CHF 80 incl. standard jewelry and special ones such as Mantis, Rhino, Nasallang, Septril from CHF 160 incl. standard jewelry.
- Jewelry change: Once the piercing has healed completely, you can change the jewelry. However, it is important to use high-quality jewelry to avoid infection.
