Introduction to septum piercing

Placement:

The septum piercing is pierced through the thin skin, called the “sweet spot”, between the upper cartilage and the thicker lower skin in the middle of the nasal septum. Each person’s anatomy and the placement of the sweet spot for this is unique and can therefore be higher, lower or, in rare cases, completely absent.

Septum piercings: everything you need to know

History:

The septum piercing, which is pierced through the nasal septum, looks back on a long and fascinating history that is closely interwoven with cultural traditions, spiritual beliefs and modern expressions of identity.

Jewelry:

In the freshly pierced septum piercing you can either use a curved barbell, which allows it to be hidden invisibly in the nose until healing, or a CBB can be used right at the beginning, both are available in a bar thickness of 1.2mm recommended. After healing, many different types of jewelry can also be used:

  • CBBs (Circular Barbells): Horseshoe-shaped rings in various sizes and designs, with balls or points.
  • CBRs (Captive Bead Rings) / BCRs: Rings with a ball that is inserted into the ring
  • Clicker / click segment rings: Round or pointed rings with decorations such as cubic zirconia, Swarovski, patterns, snakes, etc.
  • InternalInternally threaded jewelry with decoration, shapes, patterns etc.

    Healing time:

The healing time of a septum piercing varies from person to person, but is usually around 3 months. Patience and conscientious care are particularly recommended during the healing phase. See also our care instructions.

      Dangers and complications:

As with any piercing, there are certain risks associated with septum piercings, such as infections, allergic reactions, inflammation, scarring and skin blemishes. To minimize these risks, it is essential to be pierced by a professional piercer and to use high-quality jewelry.

      Recommendations for care:

      • Disinfect the piercing 3-5 times a day with a suitable piercing spray. We recommend the use of our Piercing Care. We have achieved the best results with this piercing spray over the years.
      • Avoid touching or pulling on the piercing. Please do not use Q-tips (cotton buds) for cleaning and use a clean handkerchief for crusts.
      • Always use a clean handkerchief when blowing your nose or in case of postoperative bleeding.
      • Make sure that your hair does not touch the piercing if possible.
      • If you are unsure about swelling, redness or pain, come and see us.

      Additional information:

      • Pain: The piercing of a septum piercing is mild to slightly painful, but causes tearing at the beginning. However, the individual sensation of pain can vary.
      • Costs: The cost of a septum Piercing vary depending on the jewelry. Our prices start at CHF 65 including standard jewelry.
